I remember my first travelling abroad was on my 25th birthday and it was an unforgetable journey (permata pengalamanku) in my life. I remember each detail on my first journey. Many people say that memory will last forever and it does.
Nowadays, it is getting easy to travel abroad and cheaper than a decade ago. Thanks to internet.
To minimize cost, here some tips for you based on my experience more than a decade ago :
1. Choose non visa country
ASEAN + Hongkong are non visa country. Some country in the europe or latin america also a non visa country. The list of non visa country is updated each year, you can googled it which country is free visa for indonesian traveller.
2. Minimize cost of your accomodation
Travel to other country when your relative going abroad due to her/his work. For example, your sister going abroad for a week to attend training. You can go with her. You can save your accomodation cost and also your breakfast cost. But, it is important that it is allowed and you don't make trouble because of it.
3. Sight seeing the city by public transportation or by walk.
It will cost you cheaper compare to if you take a tourist bus, unless if the tourist bus is free. Don't forget to bring your own bottle of water and some biscuits when you take a walk or go around the city.
4. Choose the cheapest airfare
Eventhough your sister fly with the business class (because it is paid by her company), you can choose to fly with the lowcost airline and be brave enough to travel alone on your own for the first time. Learn the maps of the airport and decide where and what time you will meet your sister there.
5. Don't buy things or go shopping without plan before and plan your ittenary reasonable.
Remember your baggage especially for low budget airline only 7kg (all-in). Your ittenary should be aligned with your budget. Many entry tickets for tourist are expensive especially foreign tourist, they differenciate the ticket for domestic and foreign ticket.
So there are a lot of tips and tricks actually to travel abroad that not cost you a lot of money. The important things is be brave because it is your first time especially if it is a solo traveling and believe me the experience will last forever.
Brave is the very first key that you must have if you wanna go abroad especially when you do solo traveling. I must agree with you mbak once you decided to spend your money for traveling abroad you will get so much more and off course unforgetable memories too
